Dave Wandling, CDC, vice president of customer relations at The Flesh Company, St. Louis, and “an industry icon,” will retire tomorrow, the company said in a news release.

Wandling joined Flesh’s sales department in 1975, and has been a well known, well-liked fixture at industry events ever since. The Flesh Company was a founding member of PSDA in 1946, when the association was created as the National Business Forms Association.

As Wandling rose through the ranks at The Flesh Company, he also became more involved in the association. He achieved the association’s Certified Forms Consultant (CFC) accreditation in 1987 and later served on the CFC Accreditation Board for several years, helping design new questions for the annual CFC exam. When the CFC accreditation was modernized in 1998 to Certified Document Consultant, Wandling was among the first to attain that designation. He was a regional coordinator in 1990-92 and 1999-2000. He chaired the Trade Mart Committee in the ’90s and served for many years on the Publications Committee.

In 1993, the association awarded Wandling the Manufacturer Member of the Year Award for his continued dedication to the industry. Even when he did not hold an official title as an association leader, Wandling remained among the most active PSDA members, consistently providing staff and members with information, ideas and feedback about the industry, member needs and how the association’s products and services met those needs.

“I’ve worked with Dave ever since I came to the association in 1981,” said PSDA Executive Vice President Peter L. Colaianni, CAE. “He’s always been a great contributor—a giver, not a taker—as well as a friend to me, the PSDA staff and our members.”
