The Flesh Company Releases Document Security White Paper

02/15/12

The Flesh Company has recently released a new white paper entitled “Document Security”, which is available as a PDF download from www.fleshco.com. The paper discusses the risks involved in counterfeit attacks, targeted documents and deterrent methods available. “Even as the check market declines, we continue to see new opportunities in security printing in other areas such as vital records, car titles, certificates of origin and documents of authentication,” says Roger Buck, CDC, Marketing Director for the company. A few months ago Flesh announced a new LaserLock coating that can be applied over VOID pantographs. This aids in toner adhesion in cases where heavy printing may cover up a mill applied adhesion coating. “ID theft and brand fraud have passed check fraud as a financial loss to USA companies. For a distributor this can be a huge market using integrated cards, labels, licenses and permits to name a few.” Flesh will be posting a follow up white paper in the near future providing distributors a tool to open a discussion with an account regarding risk analysis.

St. Louis Graphic Students Tour Digital Division

02/06/12

Lindwood LCIEA graphics class from Lindenwood LCIE recently toured the digital and label division of The Flesh company.

“It is always an enlightening experience for my Lindenwood LCIE Graduate Imaging and Design class to visit an actual printer, says Chuck Scoggins, class instructor. We discuss a lot of design theory in class, including topics pertaining print and digital applications. However, it's not until the students see the practical applications of those theories that it really clicks for them.

The Flesh Company's digital and offset division in Fenton, MO is the perfect place for students to get this real-world view of the printing world. Their range of services and equipment - from labels presses, to commercial and digital - provide an excellent view of traditional printing processes as well as cutting-edge new techniques.”

The tour took place in the evening as many of the students have day time jobs. The students saw jobs being set up and ran on flexo, litho and digital color printing equipment as well as a chance to see the supporting bindery and finishing equipment. A Q & A session was held following the tour with students posing questions to Roger Buck, Marketing Director for The Flesh Company. “This was one of the best groups yet. The questions and enthusiasm of these students is exciting to see and we love having them come in for a tour.” Buck says some students contact the company after the tour to ask questions regarding market growth segments or starting their own company.

The Flesh Company Announces New security Coating

08/01/11

A long term leader in the production of security documents, The Flesh Company of St. Louis, MO, has announced the addition of Laser Lock® to their security arsenal. Laser Lock replaces the need for buying check papers with toner adhesion coating. “One of the issues with the current toner option within a substrate is that a portion of the coating may be covered by printed screens such as VOID pantographs. Toner applied by the client is then resting on the ink and not adhering to the substrate. “With Laser Lock® we can produce the client’s document with a wide variety of covert and overt systems then apply a top laser coating in the final stages of production”, says Donna Grounds, VP of Sales. Layered security has proven to aid in counterfeit deterrence. By utilizing substrate, print and toner imaging security options clients can ward off chemical, mechanical and digital attacks on their documents. More information is available by calling The Flesh Company at 800.835.0098.

The Flesh Company Holds 5th TPM Kaizen Event

04/05/11

In 2008 Appleton Papers invited The Flesh Company to participate in a TPM (Total Productive Manufacturing) on rewinder 45 at the mill. The Flesh Company returned the favor by inviting Appleton Papers to participate on a TPM Kaizen on press 400. The shared experiences solidified the true meaning of supplier partnership within the industry. In a TPM Kaizen event the purpose is to reduce the losses associated with machine downtime by clean to inspect, inspect to detect, detect to correct and correct to perfect. The E.I.T. (equipment improvement team) evaluates the overall equipment effectiveness and addresses the six big losses of equipment failure, setup adjustment, minor stoppages, reduced run speeds, defects and reduced yield. Many Kaizen events have taken place in the last three years with the most recent event targeting a Hamilton collator in the Parsons, KS facility.

“The process takes three to five days utilizing E.I.T. of eight to ten employees who volunteer for the event” according to Jonathan Norris, Assistant Production Manager. During that time each volunteer’s entire shift time is dedicated to the Kaizen project. “We begin each event by building a foundation for Lean Manufacturing with hours of classroom training on Waste, Flow, Value Stream Mapping says Norris. The team reviews the time studies and establishes new goals to reduce the downtime and create basic equipment care route for the machine. Continuous improvement is a natural mindset for The Flesh Company as we migrate into a Visual Workplace enhancing Safety, Quality, Standard Operating Procedures and Best Practices.

At the end of each event there is a final half day summary and reporting meeting to gauge the results of the project and celebrate completion. The Flesh Company is dedicated to providing superior customer support and quality products. Continual improvement events insure manufacturing divisions operate with quality equipment. Photographs taken during the event can be seen on the company Facebook page.
